What Are You Reading This Year?

The secret to do well in English is really very simple-you have to read, read and read. Unfortunately most of us spend more time on PSPs and on MSN,rather than in front of a book. If everyone reads for, say, 1 to 2 hours a week, I guarantee that your English language skills will improve. So I hope you have followed my instructions to look for a book you would LOVE to read, which you will bring to school for reading period on Thursdays and Fridays until you finish it. Post a comment by FRIDAY 16 January to leat us know what you are reading at the start of this year. The best comment of the week will get a prize!

Tell us:

a. Title of the book
b. Author
c. What is the book about
d. Any thoughts you have on the book so far

At the moment, Miss Ruby is reading "Old Path White Clouds: Walking in the Footsteps of the Buddha" by Thich Nhat Hanh. It's a book about the life story of the Buddha, ceeatively re-imagined by a Viatnamese monk. It's written in simple but beautiful prose, and as a Buddhist I find the book very moving- I often have my tears in my eyes as I read this book! :P For non-Buddhists, it's a very accessible introduction to the Buddha's life and his teachings. In fact, it was a non-Buddhist friend who reccomended the book to me- she also cried after reading it!
Lets us know if you are crying or laughing after reading the book :D

hi Ms Ruby,

Selena is here to post a comment about the book i have read. The title of the book is Girl Fifteen, Flirting for England. The book is written by Sue Limb.

Basically, this book is about a girl, Jess, of our age attending school just like any other odinary schooling people. Their school had an exchange programme from England. Jess' French exchange partner looked like what she supposed to be the guy of her dreams in the photo he sent her through the mail their teacher received.

Jess was looking forward to everything and even planned a whole list of things to do when her French exchange partner arrived. But to her horror, her exchange partner did not turn out to be quite like what she expected, let less be the photo. After Jess start to get use to her partner, her friend Josie called for a camping night at her granny's place. Everyone was looking forward to it. When they were there,
Jess started to hang out with Josie's exchange partner, Gerard. Things seems to grow between the both of them within the few hours of the camp night. But when Jess found out that Gerard was cheating on her, her forgets about him and starts liking this popular guy in the school known as Ben Jones.

After reading this book, i felt that i can really relate to the book as what happens in the book do really happens sometimes in reality. I can use this book as an advice in relationships, like not to step into a relationship without knowing how much commitment you will have to put in. I honestly feel that this book is a great book(: I have currently read all the following espisodes of the books already. It is like you cannot stop reading until the whole story is over. Haha! I guess this is all!

Selena signing off(:

Hi, my turn! Over the holidays.. I went to the library to check out some books. I had no idea what kind of story i wanted to read so I chose this random book called Flirt.

However, it's not about flirting. xD It's more about working in offices. So.. when reading this book, I learnt the way people cope with their career. For example, being an interviewer or reporter. I can't explain much about the characters in the book as I forgot their names and stuff. So yeah. Sorry. xD

The main character in the story was a Japanese woman. In the beginning, she was having problems and stress with her career and she always messed up. She could not adapt with the Americans too either. So.. she tried her best not to mess up again as to not disappoint her American boss. Therefore, after much perseverance and confidence, the Japanese woman succeeded in both her career and impressing the Americans by being like an American too. Sadly, she had to break up with her boyfriend. Awww. xD And anyway, they had to because they were having a long-distance relationship. So sadly, yeah.

That's all i have to say. Sorry that there's not much detail in this story. The holidays were over for a long time already. ;D

Hello Ms Ruby !

Alright, over the holidays,i got a chance to lay my hand on a book. It was a book called, 'Totto-Chan' from an author name Kuroyanagi. This book emphasises on a rebellious child called Totto-Chan. Unlike an ordinary child , Totto-chan had to move from one school to another because of the way she behaved in school. This kept happening for a couple of times before Totto-chan finally settled in a fine school one day. Totto-chan loves this new school,Tomoe Gakuen. She learnt alot of things such as life skills science and lots more. Totto-chan grew in Tomoe and began to love school. After awhile, everything was fine and her mother acn finally depend on her in Tomoe as Totto-chan's principal are very concern on every individual.

I've read this book for more than 3 times and it never fails to make me keep on reading. I find this book very cute and funny. I hope those who owned this book to read it !

:D
